Looking For a Platform Bed? After 2 1/2 Years, and Dozens of Samples, We Finally Discovered A Brand That is Highly Durable, Easy to Put Together, UPSable, Made With Renewable Products, With
Eye Catching Finishes
Platform beds are among the most practical and versatile beds available today. With the mattress marketplace in the U.S. becoming highly specialized, the need for conventional headboards and footboards, oversized and overpriced box springs and mile high mattresses is diminishing, as interest in alternative bedding including natural latex, air beds, memory foam, futons, and other specialized materials skyrockets. Platform beds have been around much longer than you think, as far back as the nineteenth century, when bed frames were designed to sit higher from the ground, and there was no need for a box spring or foundation piece.

The mattress was placed directly on top of the deck of the platform bed, and there was usually a material placed on top of the slats of the platform so the mattress would not ooze through over time. Since storage space was at a premium, there was plenty of extra space underneath the platform bed. Platform beds are not only functional, but also visually appealing, offering the sleek, lower profile styling which is considered highly desirable today. Practically, it’s easier to sit on the edge of your platform bed, too, since there is no need for a boxspring piece. We get complaints all day from customers looking for a bed frame that they do not need a stepladder to get in and out of! Most platform beds are available in knock down form, are easily assembled, made from high quality hardwood materials, and the connecting hardware is usually case hardened steel, and average assembly time is about 20 minutes. One of the best benefits of a platform system when you are using a natural latex, air bed, or foam bed, is the passive ventilation from underneath, that keeps your mattress cool and dry. We recommend a platform bed that has a slat system where the distance between the slats is equal to or less than 3½”, to allow proper support and to prevent “oozing” over time . This distance allows optimal ventilation and provides good continual support across the entire surface of the bed. A platform bed is
really no different than your conventional bed, except that the deck surface is higher from the ground, eliminating the need for a boxspring or foundation piece, saving you money.
One plus is that you create storage space underneath the platform bed that you would not have under a conventional bed setup. And, in many cases, at least half the cost of a good quality platform bed, such as our platform bed lineup, would be money saved since you do not need a boxspring. Our platform bed systems, manufactured by a highly respected furniture manufacturer called Night And Day Furnishings®, have been rigorously tested and engineered for extreme load capability, and can support mattresses such as any brand name memory foam, air bed, natural latex, futons, urethane foam beds, even alternative bedding such as Magna-Flex, Nikken, and other products.
